Default figured it out

Ok i figured out the problem with the over heating..now onto the tranny shifting..i pulled the cable from the lever on the tranny and i can move the car into all gears by hand as normal on the tranny, until i hook the cable back up to the lever and run the gears..reverse pushes the cable forward as into park ,doesnt move until i put it into low gear then it mves down when i put it back into park the cabl acts as its bound and stops in nuetral..the odd thing to me is the whole cable and adjuster? is sliding where its fastened to the tranny bythe block..seems to be WAY to much play...woulds anyone happen to have a picture or know where to find one to see what is missing
thanks

This is how it should look when put on properly: http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...e/HPIM0525.jpg

Does that help?

Yes thank you he forgot to put the the clip on the adjuter..it does move now..
but now its acting weird.. not as it did when we took it to him..and sitting for 3 months i have no clue..it will sift into drive when i shift it but wont shift into the other gears unless i put it in 3rd then it will run the gears but if i put it back into drive while moving it acts if i put it in nuetral..dont really think after 3 months of sitting and a new valve body before we took it to him that it should be acting like it is so im stumped on that one ..i will say no mre back yard mechanics for me.

Backyard mechanics are fine. However a new VB replacement should take less then 2 hours at the most.

Adjust the shifter. Make sure the cable is adjusted properly. You cant just put the tab in. See if that helps

OK thanks tried that but no difference ..is there an adjustment needed inside the car on the shifter anywhere? i checked and cleaned the wires and connector on the VB..is there anything he might have forgot to plug in that might cause that..i did find some things not plugged in like the cooling fan ,EGR solanoid nipple was broke off(replaced that),i just put a new VB in it a week before we delivered it to him and it was working great..hard telling what he done..i would just take it to our dealership here but beleive it or not they dont even like working on them.

What exactly did you bring the car there for? This may help narrow down what wires were played with or could have been disconnected.

IIRC there is no adjustment in the car. Its done at the tranny.

There is a ground that goes to the back of the engine. Some forget to put this on. Its located below the intake runner for Cyl #4 (drivers side). Make sure this ground is bolted to the block. Also there are 3 connectors that go to the tranny at the shifter on the tranny. The black one goes on the right (drivers side) tab. Ive heard of people putting it on the left tab and having issues.

I would double check to make sure the rest of the connectors are on the tranny. There is the Speed sensor on the rear above the transaxle, one under the filter, one next to the filter, one on top of the tranny held in with a bolt, and the 3 i mentioned above.

Also, check your fluid level. Make sure its to spec.
