This is a How-To: For MMO Usage and an Oil Change for the S-Series Saturn's:

In the First Picture you will see about everything you will need to do and Oil Change and a Piston Soak.

Left To Right:

Wrench with extension + Spark Plug Socket

MMO - "Marvel Mystery Oil" (16oz) - $2.00 Wal-mart
-
Motorcraft FL-400S Oil Filter - $4.00 AutoZone
- Chose this Oil Filter Because its larger then the standard Saturn Filters that are recommended for the Saturn
- This was basically the only thing ford was good at making
-After we (PlastikRacing.net) took apart a numerous amount of Oil Filters we Found that Motorcraft was one of the better ones we could buy.
- I believe this filter also fits an 89 Ford Escort and 03' SRT4's
- Anyways Its bigger, and Bigger is always better

"Motorcraft® offers specially designed silicone components in the anti-drainback valves for oil filters: - The silicone valves retain flexibility throughout the life of the filter. This ensures better oil retention in the filter and faster engine start-up lubrication."

Oh yeah.. and Its not a Cardboard Filter Tacked together with glue like them dang Frams!

Next In Line:

Rotella T - Synthetic Oil (5w-40) (4qts) - $16.00 Wal-mart
- Now this is supposed to be some kick ass stuff
- This Oil is something you might want to consider if you run your car hard or do a lot of city driving.
- This Oil was recommended to me by Natedogg from PlastikRacing.net and TurboSaturns.net Forums - I trust this guys wisdom, he has never seemed to fail me when it comes to any helpful information.

::Note:: If you end up using a bigger filter like the FL-400S you will need more then 4qts of Oil with the bigger filter you can expect to put about another 1/2 of a quart in the car:
But You Drive a Saturn so you should always have extra oil laying around anyways!!

Finally:

Shop Towels - $5.00 Wal-mart
- You will want these to clean up any spills and to put in the holes of the Sparkplug Holes to prevent Debris from entering it.

Ok! Now we Start the good stuff!

Start by Taking the plug Coils out of the Spark Plug holes:
- To get to mine I had to remove (2) 10mm nuts holding the plugs down:

After Removing the 2 Nuts you can pull the plugs out of the holes:

Now Take you Wrench+extender+sparkplug socket and get them spark plugs out!
- Now when I pull them out I set them out in order, so when I put everything back together it all goes back in the same spot!
- If you haven't changed your plugs in a while now would be a good time to think of doing this!

After all the plugs are out they should look something like this..

Next We take our MMO and pour a few ounces in to each hole 1 to 2 oz should be enough.
- As you will see in the picture I made a mess with it - the wind was blowing pretty hard.

Now Cover up your 4 Holes with a couple of rags so no Debris get in to the holes!
and clean up any spills

Now Remove the Oil Cap on the Crankcase: and Pour what is left of the MMO in to it!

After filling the Crankcase put the cap back on and You are all set!
- I actually Bought 2 Bottles of MMO and I added 4oz of it to my gas tank:

It was said that this stuff will also clean all the carbon from the fuel lines and fuel injectors as well.

Now.. We go to sleep:
- It says you need a Min. of 8 Hrs to let this settle/clean you know.. do Its job.

So tomorrow Morning we will wake up and finish this project!

::Note:: If you are doing this + an Oil Change do the piston Soak First! Then when you are finished doing the Oil Changed all the crap it cleaned out should come out with the oil.


Ok - Its been 14hrs Since we did our MMO Soak:

Now its time to go back outside - Pop Open the hood and stuff some towels down the holes
It will look something like this

Now you will go in the car and turn it over for a few seconds 3 to 5 secs.

You will prolly see the towels launch out of the holes - Go put them back in the holes and turn it over 1 more time for a few seconds.

Now you want to put the sparkplugs back in to the holes in which they came from.

::Note:: You should use a little bit of anti-seize grease on the threads of the plugs don't cake it on their though.

Now the way I do this is I use my hands with the 2 extensions and the sparkplug socket.
- I first turn it counter-clockwise (left) to make sure the sparkplug is in the threads
- Then I will turn it Clockwise (right) to tighten it down.
I tighten it down to the point I cant turn it no more with my hands - and I put the wrench on top and give it a little tug to snug it in their.
What the Chilton says: "Make it snug, then turn it 1/4th a turn to smush the washers"

- Now if you are lucky enough to have a torque wrench you will want to use this measurement to tighten down the plugs - 20ft. Lbs.

After all the plugs are in - Put the wires back in the holes, tighten down the 10mm bolt - and Start the car up!

You may have a hard time getting it to startup at first - Just keep trying.

My Personal Experience with this - my car turned right over and started.

You will also see some white Smoke come out of the exhaust this is ok! and its fun to watch!

Take the car out for a spin around the block - And when we come back we will let the engine cool down and we will start our Oil Change!

This is the rest of the stuff you will most likely need to perform the oil change.

Left to right:

14MM Wrench

2 Jack Stands

1 Oil Pan to Catch the old Oil in

And a Hydraulic Jack

First thing to do:

Jack up the front end of the car, now just start by jacking up 1 side of the car first.
for a jack point I use the front part of the Saturn's cradle right in front of the front sway bar.

After I get that side jacked up high enough I will set the jack stand underneath the car and let the cradle rest on the jack stand.

Now let down the Jack and move over to the other side of the car and jack up that side, and do the same thing.

Once your done you should have something that looks like this.

Next you will want to place your Oil Pan underneath the oil drain plug. Try and center it, you want to catch all the oil that comes out.

Now you want to take your 14MM Wrench and take out the Oil Pan Drain Bolt:
You want to put the wrench on and turn it towards the left front tire (Passenger side)
This is what the Oil Pan Drain Plug looks like.

After a few turns you should be able to get it by hand, just as all the threads have come out of the pan pull it away fast - If you do it too slow you will end up with oil everywhere, That's no fun to clean up!


This is the Oil leaking in to the pan.. Yay!

Now I usually Climb back to my feet, and unscrew the Oil Cap on top of the car For me it seems the oil drains faster this way, and not only that it has to come off anyways.

After All the oil has been drained put the screw back in, you can tighten it so its really snug, or if you have a torque wrench you can tighten it to 27ft. Lbs.

Now we are going to attack the Oil Filter this needs to be replaced at this time.

This part gets pretty messy due to the location of the filter. so Expect some oil to come out and go everywhere.. Its normal!

This is the general location of the Filter (Up about 1ft from the Oil Pan Drain Plug, and over to the passengerside 1/2 a foot. Its kind of hidden if you don't know what your looking for.)

Now Laying on your back looking directly up at it you are going to want to grab this with your hand and turn it left to unscrew it off.

Sometimes its a pain in the butt to get it off, so If you have an Oil Filter Wrench this can be used too!

Now that you got it out, we can replace it with the new one!

As you can see our Motorcraft filter is about 1 1/2 inches taller then the one recommended for a Saturn.

Now on the new filters what I usually do, is I will take some old oil and dab some on my finger to lube up the rubber seal on the new filter.

After that is done, we can place the Oil Filter back in to its rightful spot!
Make sure you take your time on this, you don't want to ruin the threads.

It should go on pretty easy though.
Make sure this is very snug in their as well.

Now we stand back up, and put in the new Oil in to the Crankcase
When I do Oil I will normally use a funnel so I don't spill oil all over the place.

But you do not have to use this, you can just pour it in and hope that it all makes it in the hole!

After you Pour your 4qts check the dipstick and see if it says Full.

You really cant see it, but it does say Full.
So now I am going to start up the car and let it run for a Minute or so.

Shut it off, and now recheck it.

With the new filter It shows me I am about 1/2 qts low, So I will fill it up till it shows it is full again!

Finally we will jack the sides back up, take out the jack stands, and let the car down slow!

Put the Oil Cap back on the crankcase, and we are all done!
