Default Brakes

Ok. Went to PepBoys and had them look at my brakes on my F250. Making a squeal noise on the drivers side. Tech said it was the rotors. I replaced them last year though. I put on them 35k miles at least. He showed me heat spots and cracks. I said to do it. Then on the way home, I hear a grinding noise on passenger side. I take it back today. They replaced the rotors with NAPA rotors. Same problem! This wasn't there before. So, they said it was the pads. Pads also had 35k miles on them too. I said fine. I was tired. I had been there 6hrs!! Problem is now worse!! What is it? Caliper? It does pull to the left. I am thinking, the caliper on passenger side is sticking. Agree?

I think this should not be here and be put in the Other Non-Saturn Car Section.

Done.

Take it back to them and tell them that they need to actually find and fix the problem. No charge at this point would be good as they have spent a good deal of your money and not fixed the problem their work created. Come in for a squeal and come out with a grind.

^^^^^^^ +1

take it back. It should not grind. A slight draging noise is common for new pads at first but no grinding or squealing should be heard at all.

The slider pins for the caliper can be sticking or the metal shims the pads sit on could be dirty. This can keep the pad stuck against the rotor pulling (in your case left). Also it would be the drivers side caliper/brake assembly if it pulls left not the passenger side

Good luck!

Other times, the caliper piston does not retract, and that means it is time for rebuilt calipers.

Pep Boys mechanics are absolutely horrible

its like having a 5 year old work on your car (half the time a 5 year old can do better)

Changing pads and rotors does not a complete brake job make. I do all that stuff myself because it's the only way it will be done right. About every other time, I put on new calipers, they're cheap with core charge refunded, and more importantly, take the caliper brackets to be rebuilt at a plce that sells rebuilt calipers to the shops. It takes a half hour and costs $25 apiece, and it gets sandblated and gets new pins and rubbers and lubing. Once I get it all back together I do a good bleed and the system is better than new. It's important to get good quality pads. Don't get cheap ones. Shops like Pep Boys, Midas, Speedy, Firestone, Goodyear, etc. will give you the cheap soft ones but charge too much for them. Then you don't need to get super duper rotors. If everything is OK then cheap rotor won't get messed up.
