Default 2001 sc1 transmission problems (auto)

My car which has 121,000 miles has transmission issues..... First sounded like a driveshaft clunk, then within less than 100 miles reverse was gone. I have changed fluid and filter, which in turn brought back reverse slighly. Transmission shops (2 local shops) both say new transmission. My service light is on, forgot code but it involved 2nd gear improper pressure I believe and an emmision code which I'm not to concernered with at the moment..I think, I hope I don't need to replace the hole transmission, my ex wouldn't want to allocate that in the monthly support budget if you catch my drift. I have went down to the local u-pull-it last weekend and found a sc2 with an automatic tranny (96 or 97). I removed the valve body($10), fluid was clean and looking inside all gears looked fine and tight. I think I'm on the right track, but any input would greatly be appreciated. The valve bodies I believe are interchangeable, and the computer probably when reset would snyc all info I hope. Once again any input would be appreciated... THANKS

With the replacement valve body that would be the first step in the process. A lot of problems like this end up being the VB. Past there removing the trans end cover to check the torque on the shaft nuts would be the next step.

+1

I replace the input/output shaft nuts every time I do a valve body, because they are known to get loose.

one problem, he says he has an sc1 and the valve body is from a sc2, wont work.... yes they interchange just fine and fit, but the single cam and the twin cam valve bodys have diffrences that wont allow them to swap over. drop me a line if you need the proper valve body or if youd like a whole low mileage tranny youll be susprised that they are very inexpensive. either way we can help, joey from 6th planet
