did the car overheat when it shut off (was the temp gauge really high)???? and how low is low (the oil)..... cause i once had a car (not a saturn) that i accidentally ran out of oil (it burnt it pretty bad) any way it over heated and wouldnt start when i added some more oil after it had cooled off a good amount it started but i realized i broke something..... (i think a rod or something it was bad and the car was goten rid of soon after....)

hi guys thanx for all the feedback . the engine was no where near overheating, nor has it overheated since we got it 2 years ago. when i turn the key i get no response at all when i go from the off position to acc, the radio will come on so there electric in the car, but when i turn it to the start position i get absolutely nothing, no clicking , no turning over or anything. i'm thinking the ignition switch in the steering column maybe shot or the wire, for some reason i'm not getting any electric from the key in the start position to the starter is this making sense i don't know to much about cars, but i am a logical thinker and if i'm getting power everywhere else in the car it must be a link between the key in the ignition and the starter. i have another question if the starter was no good would that keep the engine from even turning over.

Saturn starters don't go bad very often. When they do it is usually by blowing up or nearly so, they will still work but they will make nasty noises OR they will just not work. They will have power to the main power feed to the starter and they will get power to the solenoid through the smaller purple wire but they will do nothing. For the starter to cause the engine not to turn over, as in locking the engine up physically the starter would have had to blown up and tossed chunks. If the starter was just not working then it would of course not turn the engine over.

Make sure that there is power at the starter on the cable from the battery. Make sure that there is power on the solenoid wire at the starter when the ignintion key is turned to the start position. If both check out ok and you can turn the engine over by hand then you have a bad starter.

I don't want to sound mean...but if you are unsure of cars I reccommend taking (towing) it to a repair shop (poss. even the dealer) to have this looked at. You don't want to guess and sink a lot of unneeded money in to a repair that was useless.

hey guys! how can you get error codes without a scanner. i read somewhere on this site that you can jump the last 2 holes on the top row of the computer hookup to get the car to give error messages using the ses light. is this possible and if so how do you jump these last 2 holes on the top row. do you try to connect on them by inserting 1 wire into both holes or what.

quick question what could make the engine just shut off. also would a bad alt keep the car from turning over because there is enough juice in the battery for the radio to come on as well as the lights.

is it a stick or manual? my buddy just had an issue with his car where the 'clutch depression' sensor wasn't working properly so the car always thought it was in gear so wouldn't allow him to fire up. spent 2 weeks fighting it before figuring it out. *OPINIONS PLEASE* also if its stick you might think about push starting it to see if she'll fire up using an alternate method or if it just cant sustain itself anymore. 2 ideas, feel free to correct me (:

something you may want to do first is check your connections to the battery. a loose or poor connection could cause a stall as well as a no crank condition. also do the basics by checking all other connections (neg batt cable to grounds and positive batt cable to starter). see if they are loose by simply doing a "wiggle test." grab gently and shake. if loose, tighten.
another thing to check as previously stated is to see if the engine can be manually turned by hand (using a wrench or socket). if you can't, you may have a seized motor, causing both your stall and no crank condition.
