Default 93 sl wont start

ok guys i'm new to the board, so if i miss something forgive me. my girl's saturn was running fine then all of a sudden the engine shut down and the car coasted to a stop. it started fine when it was running onc it shut down it wouldn't start. it won't even attempt to turn crank or turn over now. all the other elctronics in the car work radio, lights, etc... engine will not turn over, ses light, oil light, battery light are on on the dash. tried to jumpstart nothing i don't even get any clicks, when i turn the key on i hear the fuel pump. saw white smoke coming from back of the engine by firewall. oil is low in the car please tell me that that wouldn't stop the car from at least turning over. thanx in advance. should just find something new or put whatever money into this car

please help in distress

Default 93 sl wont startrn

thank you for the reply ausgeflippt13 could you or anyone give me more detail on what to look for. this the first time i ever had a problem like this where the engine won't even turn over or crank or make any type of reaction when i turn a key. i think it may be the starter but am not sure. could a bad starter keep the engine from turning over. i don't have the faintest idea where to start looking. in my first post i said something about the burning wire behind the engine. i need to find the placement of the starter on a 93 saturn sl2.

I'd get the starter checked before just replaceing it. Also have the battery and Alt. checked for correct output. If they are fine look at your Crank Position sensor.

How low is the oil? Could be the starter. But.....

Make sure that the engine will turn over/spin when you try to move it by hand, wrench/rachet and socket on the crank bolt. No movement out of the engine suspect a siezed engine.

It's a 21 MM bolt. Turn the wheel out of your way and remove the shield.

thanx for all the responses. is there a web site i can go to to find pictures of the engine like specific locations of the starter. and could a bad starter stop the engine from even turning over or attempting to crank. like i said before i get nothing when i turn the key, as far as the engine turning over. could possibly be the ignition wire or the module. i was thinking it was an electrical problem between the turning of the key and the starter something is not getting power. i don't have alot of money to spend and i'm trying to avoid spending a whole lot of it if possible.

I know that once in a blue moon my engine won't turn over (all I hear is the "click" of the attempted start), and I think I've figured that it's whenever my engine gets too hot. So I open the hood and let it cool for ~30 min and it starts perfectly. Are you having this problem, or can you not start the car AT ALL?

Talk to your saturn tech for some diagrams for the engine bay and where everything's located.

I reccommend going out and buying a Chiltons or Haynes book to help locate started and such. They are very helpful books.

^^^Haynes is a bit more user-friendly than Chilton's, but doesn't have the amount of info that Chilton's has IMO.
