Default 94 twin cam trouble

Hi all. My Saturn will sometimes start to stumble on acceleration, and when this happens, the problem will get worse and worse until it will start bucking, coughing and then die. At this point it will not start. It acts as if it's out of gas. Then after a period of time, it will start and run rough or start and run fine, but after it's left for a while it runs perfectly fine and will continue to go well for days, then it happens again. No SES appears to guide me either. Since it's intermittent I haven't been able to diagnose the problem while it's active. So, I wonder if any of you engine gurus, or any of you who may have experienced this problem, can guide me in the right direction?
Thanks,
EK

Welcome to the Board.

Check the basics.

Plugs, plug wires, ignition coils.
How is the coolant sensor? Any smoke out the tail pipe when it is acting up?
