I've read through a lot of the posts and my problem is similar but not identical to some of the others so I want to see what you all think. I am by no means a mechanic.
My 95 Saturn SL2 standard will almost stall when out of gear following heavy acceleration. It goes away after revving the engine while out of gear or continuing to drive in gear although it runs a little rough initially. The problem does not usually return until the next drive. I can avoid the problem altogether if I start of slow and steady from stops and do not gun it. I can drive for days like this without the problem flaring up.
From the other posts that are similar I suspect the EGR. What other things should I look for? How do I clean the EGR if it needs it?
well this may not be normal but in my auto 97 SL2 when i idle...im floating at like 500 RPMs...soo...and its not rough. But to me for some reason it seems really low
Your EGR is of the Electronic type, so replacing it costs quite a bit, I wanted to clean mine too but the bolts are way too tight and trying to get in there with a box wrench, cresent wrench, socket or locking pliers proved impossible anyways.
on another note you could try replacing the PCV valve for $8.
i had a problem wit my car which made it idle REALLY rough. it was 2 problems. one was the motor mount on the passenger side was shot. it was tore to bits so if u go to saturn they will charge you like 78 for a new one. that still didnt fix my problem, but the other problem was with accel coil packs
