Default Actuator rod fell off Master Slave and into tranny

Hello everyone at Saturnspot!

I'm a poster at xtremesaturn, but their site seems to be having difficulties.

I drive a 1994 SL1 SOHC TBI manual.

I was installing a master/slave cylinder I had pulled, and the actuator rod fell off the end and fell into the tranny. I had tried using a magnetic snake with no luck, and had the car pulled to a shop where they are now quoting me $400 to pull the tranny.

Is there any easier way of getting the rod out, or am I definately going to have to pull the transmission?

Welcome to the Board.

If you remove the tin inspection cover from the front of the trans you MAYBE able to get the rod out with a magnet. If not then removing or pulling the trans back enough to get to the rod rapidly becomes the only solution.

If you can't fish it out with a magnet, the tranny has to come out.

Man now I feel better im not the only Jackass to that, I had a magnetic tool, that got it out for me but it was a pain in the butt took time and alot alot of patience. Try it again and if I was you try to search for any kind of tool that is very long and bendable, alot better then paying $400. If it takes the whole night or day to me it''s worth it unless you have that kind of money to throw around.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm glad to hear the magnetic tool worked for you Nyce, I spent an hour using it and gave up since I figured it would be impossible to find the rod with it. Guess I was wrong, and now I wish I had spent more time on it.

The shop is now quoting $212, so I told them to go ahead and pull the tranny. Now I just hope they don't jack the price up when they're done.

I did this too. I could not get it out with anything after spending 2 hours at it. I just ended up seperating the tranny about 1-2 inches and was able to get it out, was leaning right up against the flywheel. It does not have to come out, but you do have to unbolt it and pull to the side a little bit.
