As SL2 you don't need to remove the PS.

Disconnect the neg battery terminal. Remove the serpentine belt from the alt. There is a 13mm head bolt on the top of the alt/bottom of the PS area that needs to be removed. Have a look at your new alt to get an idea of where it is. From under the car--safely raised and held up by jack stands--access the alt. Remove the plastic shield on the alt. Remove the plug in connector. Remove the power out lead, 10mm head nut. Tire turned so that the car would be turning full left, in the wheel well remove the rear splash shield. Remove the alt lower pivot/hold in bolt, 13 mm bolt head and 13mm nut. Remove the alt from the engine block and move out through where the splash shield was. Install is basicly reverse.
One tip is to put the pivot bolt in loosely and then go up top and install the top bolt in all the way. Then go back under and install everything there.

This job is a little bit of a pain the first time you try figuring out how to do it. After the first time it's really easy and fast. 2 comments; After removing the plastic shield from the rear, I like to dissconnect the orange wire that goes to the starter terminal from the starter. I think it's easier than messing with the smaller nut arrangement on the alternator. Just keep the wire attached to the alternator. Second, once the alt is loose, while facing the front of the engine through the passenger wheel well, remove the alternator through the lower left of the wheel well opening. Slight maneuvering is needed, but it's not very difficult.

Also, my note. I find it helpful to remove the 1 bolt and one nut that holds the lower support arm for the intake manifold in place. this allows you to rotate the arm out of the way giving you ALOT more room to maneauver the alternator around int the small space.
