Default Auto Tranny Problem

I have a 92 SL2 and tonight I was driving along the road and the tranny started kicking hard to 3rd and back to 4th . It did this twice then would not come out of third gear. I now have only 2nd and 3rd gears and the tranny will not shift on it's own. I have no leaking and the fulid is fine. could this be an Electronic part or is my valve body or TC toast. This is the second tranny in 2 years.

SES light on? How is the electrical connector to the trans? Alternator working properly? Second trans new one or used?

if the TC is toast, you aren't going to move at all. Just freely rev. Check the elecrtical connectors, reset the PCM. if that fails, new tranny time. i'm on my 3rd too. it only costs $250 for a new one and about 8hrs to pull and replace.

well I dont know what the Heck caused the problem but this morning it is working just fine.

I'm thinking somthing electrical was acting up. this tranny is a used one that i put in feburary of 03. I really dont want to dump any more $$ into it because I got the car for $50 . It has many problems like the front main leaking like a sive and the egr soilnoid being bad. But the car never let me down so far. SO all in all, I am looking to get rid of her and get a 240sx for my girl any one want to make an offer?

ok. Im having the same problem with my car. But it kicks hard from 2nd to third and sometimes from 1st to 2nd... but it does it while slowing down to when it down shifts. I recently also mannaged to hit a curb quite hard with my left tire. My wheel was turned slighty to the left so it hit the inside of the tire and i was sliding to the right some... could this be part of my problem? My car drives straight and stuff still. But like said before after about 20min or so of driving my trans starts to kick and sometime pretty violently... enough to churp the tires. Oh yeah. and my SES light is on. But today it was off when i got back in my car after school (my car has been having this problem for 3 days now) but about half way to hockey pratice it came back on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even though we are taking my car to the mechanic tomorrow.

Well here is the deal with my tranny issue.. the tranny is fine. the ECM on the other hand is Dead. Run your codes. If you get a ses code 82 most likely your ecm is dead too. with the code 82 you will also be getting a code 12 and possible on the shift 2 light codes 61, 62, 63, 64. these are meaning the ecm is not getting ratio signals from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th gear sensors.

I hope this helps you all because mine just killed the timing chain guides and i have to tear in to it this weekend.

Your PCM can't be dead. If it was dead, you wouldn't even be able to satrt your car, not alone pull codes...considering it stores the codes.
