Default Belt Squeel

For the past few weeks when the weather gets cooler, my car makes this HIDEOUS high pitched squeel sound when I turn it on in any gear including park. I already have sprayed it with a spray that is supposed to eliminate that belt problem, but it's back and it's only been a week. Could it need tightened? Anybody else have this problem? It isn't a constant squeel, just when I first turn it on. (1994 SC2)

Start by REPLACING the belt. ($12 +/-) If the noise continues, the belt tensioner or idler pulley or perhaps one of the componants driven by the belt is/are dying. If replacing the belt fixes it...all the better.

My belt does the same thing when it's wet or cold. I am going to replace it, if it works I'll do yours for you.

ABSOLTULEY make sure you use a factory belt and tensioner, we have SEEN cars come in with a KNOCK, i coudnt beleive it either, billy showed me this trick, a customer came in with a knock that sounded EXACTLY like a timing chain going, billy says, aftermarket belt and tensioner, i was like no way, really? he said, yup, we saw this al the time at saturn, so i called the customer and reluctantly said, hey that new belt and tensioner you put on at some fly by night shop is the cause, again, met with disbeleif, well we put a factory belt and tensioner on and guess what? billy was dead on, no more knock...
do not use the spray on stuff , its junk, just get a new factory belt. and, then, if you still hear a squealing get the tensioner as wolf recomended.
