Default Blinker/Brake Light Malfunction on 2000 SL1

Hello. First time poster with an odd problem. I noticed something wrong with the blinker on my Saturn, which was just in for routine maintenance earlier this month.

When my foot's on the brakes, the left blinker light shows up on the dash. The left turn signal lights stay on, both front and back, but do not actually blink. If I'm not pushing down on the brake, it works normally.

This just happened today out of the blue. I appreciate any advice members can give me. Needless to say, I'll be calling my local Saturn service rep first thing tomorrow. Even in the crazy-driving Los Angeles, I need to be able to use my left turn signal!

that does sound odd. Might start just by checking bulbs. I also wonder about an alternator problem. Still, it's odd that it's side-specific & such. Might very well be something else, but those are a good place to start.

that's sorta like when my car *went away completely randomly* would illuminate the dash lights, on or off, whenever i pressed the brake pedal. and although the brake lights on both rears light up now when the pedal is depressed, only the 'light' on the right side lights up when i click on my headlights.

It's in the Saturn dealership right now, getting worked on. It's obviously some electrical malfunction, but that's all I know so far. It may have stemmed from the trailer hitch wiring from a few years back, and also I guess some wiper fluid leaked in the trunk and may have soaked some wires. I'll post an update on the prognosis when I find out more.

The wiper fluid pool got to the wires that were partially exposed from the trailer wiring addition. Cost about $130 to remedy, but could've been worse.
