Default Clutch Bogging out

Hey all!

I have 1995 SC1, we just replaced the shifting cable that snapped off couple weeks ago. (man not easy to find if u dont go through dealer, the cable) For some reason now, when RPM's hit 4000 the engine bogs out, like when u hit 105mph u feel the governer kick in or whatever it is. Any ideas what happened?

Also, the spedometer stopped, odometer quit all this happened when we replaced the shifting cable.

Any ideas as to where we should start to try and find problem?

When your RPMs shut down at 4K rpm, are you driving, or in park or neutral?

In neutral/park, it has a rev limiter at 4K. Also, doing that without a load (as it is in neutral/park) is hard on your engine. Understandable for testing purposes, and not trying to be hard on ya, but keep that to a limit.

Totally cuts out at 4K, or just looses most power?

My 1994 SC2 had a similiar problem..I couldn't get the RPM's above 3500. I just drove it for a while....it didn't sound like the rev limiter did, it just sounded like it was topping out.

One night, I was coming home, and I was pushing against where it was stuck, and there was this huge KA CHUNK! and the car shot forward, and everything was fine!

I figured my glasspack was burning out, and the fiberglass melted to a point where it was restrictive, and I finally shot it out the back of the car. My friend figured I shot a squirrel out the back

so along those lines - maybe restriction from a bad catalytic converter?

hmm interesting, and how much do one of those run rougly? we can put it on just wondering cost lol. I am thinking something wire is loose as far as gauges and odometer goes, cuz service engine light comes in and out but comes on when i turn hard left lol, so guessin something is just not plugged in where it's supposed to be and it's loose.

Cat is probably in the $100 neighborhood. If your check engine light is coming on, check codes. '95 is still OBD1, so autozone, etc, won't do it, but I think there's a way to DIY...
