Default code 23 on tthe trans axel ses

the other day i checked the codes from my 95 sl1 with 120 thou .
i got the reg ses code then it started flashing red on the top rt of dash
(i think it was a temp icon and an oilcan)
but anyway i think it came out to a 23.
also i was driving the other day and al of a sudden i was free wheeling
like i put it in neutral. i had to pull over and shut off key and restart to get going again.
i changed the fluid and filter but wife says it did it again also she went to reverse and after a pause a bang and reverse she went.
is the tranny junk?
thanks

Your ODB1 95' flashes stored transmission codes on a different dash light than the engine codes (which are flashed on the SES light) I don't have my code book with me, but it sounds like a valve body problem or perhaps a "turbine spped sensor problem. A change of the transaxle fluid/filter 'may' help, BUT you may need to have the valve body at least replaced...sorry but it's an expensive bit of parts/work. HOWEVER if it is the turbine speed sensor, it is a relatively cheap fix...for your wallet's sake I hope it's the sensor.

yup, wolfies right, most likely its the valve body, if so drop me a line,w ere going to be WAY cheaper thent he dealer, and if you have that many miles you may want to consider repalcing the whole tranny and not jsut the valve body, if you check and your fluids all burnt and shot that wouldbe due to the tranny intenrals, the valve body doesnt make the fluid turn brown or go bad, since whole trannys are under 500.00 with us it may be wise to replace the whole thing, all depends on how it performs overall , weigh the options, how much life do you think is still left in it? is it worth doing a 400.00 valve body job when for nearly the same cost you can repalce the whole unit with a much lower mileage one etc...
