Default Dead 93 SC1

Well I had the serpentine belt replaced by the dealer several months ago. This is a 93 SC1. The belt has slipped ever since. I applied belt dressing. Same. Now the battery is dead since I suspect the belt is slipping and not engaging the alternator. The dealer recommends replacing the belt tensioner for $366. Two hours labor at $180 and $180 for a belt tensioner. Unbelievable. Much like the motor mounts that broke after 25,000 miles.
Is there a cheaper way to do this?

Thanks in advance....

You could do it yourself if you're good with your hands. You could also go to an independent shop, they're always cheaper than the dealer.

Also, I should note that belt dressing is actually bad for the belt, and probably increased the slipping/noise over time. You shouldn't use it.

Thanks that is a good suggestion. I will check with some independent shops. The belt dressing did not really help this slipping. I had the battery tested, and it was bad. I replaced the 2001 battery last night and the SC1 is running. Sorry if I was negative in my first port. Talking with dealerships irritates me. I am in the process of locating reasonably priced idler and tensioner pulleys.

Holy HECK BATMAN! man bro you want KYB or Vaseline?

Bro it takes 10 min to change out a belt get yourself a 9/16 open end wrench and turn the Tensioner towards the front of the car. Very Very Easy to do and you should also have a diagram in the front on how the belt should go so you can't mess this up. P.M. if you need anymore help.

Go to Napa or Autozone they have belts much cheaper then $180....

Belt tensioner. Not belt.

First, how do you figure you belt is slipping? The noise?

Second, it's two 10mm bolts holding the tensioner and it takes me less than 15 mintures to loosen the front passenger wheel, jack the car, jack stands under it, take the wheel off, take the spash guard off, take the belt off, and the take tensioner off.
Takes another 15 mins to do the reverse.

Find another shop or do it yourself to save $$$.
