yeah its illegal to remove airbags from a car equipped with them. to me i hate airbags they scare the crap out of me, just sitting there waiting to smash my face in. ive be hit from behind by a truck moving at least 40mph while i was sitting still and i smacked my head on the steering wheel and all that i got was a bruise, now thats better then losing teeth, broken nose, dislocated jaw and whatever else can happen with an airbag. im either going to remove the airbags from my project or one of my cars(if equipped) or find a way that its legal for me to do it.

ok but anyways to remove the airbag disconnect the negative from the battery(wait 30mins before messing with the airbag), remove the airbag fuse, then remove the lower steering column filler panel and disconnect the yellow 2 way connector. passenger airbag, remove upper instrument panel pad, remove insulation beneath pad, and disconnect the yellow 2 way connector. now i got that from the haynes manual since i havent messed with mine yet so i dont know how to actually remove them, ive only removed the airbag on my escort which was easy.

As for the passenger side airbag, I'm not sure why you would want to remove it unless you fear for your passenger's nose. However for the driver's side, you can swap the steering wheel and upper steering shaft with one that isn't equipped. This is illegal though and for offroad-use only.

Yeah, there's something horrible about a BAG filled with nitrogen that rapidly deflates that keeps your face from smashing into a hard steering wheel.

Well personally, I'm going to change mine because I could do without the big ugly pillow. Not to mention, while it may save my face if I'm stupid enough to run into a tree at 60 MPH, I've also seen people with black eyes, broken noses, etc. from low speed accidents where otherwise they would have came out without a scratch.
