Default egr problems in the cold?

After getting out of work today around 12:30 I noticed the SES light was on. Thankfully I work 2 miles from auto zone. I got the code scanned, P040 sticking egr valve (or something like that). After driving around all day it went off.

Is this normal? The car is stored in my garage, but spent about 4 hours outside in the -5 degree air. I wouldn't have posted (since it went off) but this is the second time its given this code. The last time was in the summer which I fixed by replacing the pcv (no idea how that worked).

Normal is a relative term...does it happen? YES. Extremely cold weather will often push marginal componants over the edge that would have been trouble free far longer in more temperate climates. If it does not recur, leave well enough alone. If it does, remove and CAREFULLY clean the EGR valves shaft and pintle.

How is the EGR gasket as far as reuseable? I need to try to clean mine and was just wondering if I need to pick up a gasket before I take it off.
