Default Engine combos...

I've heard from certain people that the best combination for a Saturn Twin Cam is the 91-98 head for the top end, and the 99-02 pisons and rods for the bottom end. I know the 99+ pistons have the coating on the side skirts to prevent scuffing and the rods are machined as one piece and the caps are broken off instead of them being two separate pieces. I also know this makes them stronger. I was just wondering if there would be any preformance benefits or losses. I didn't think there would be but I'm not too sure. Thanks.

eh?? I've only really heard of just swapping the entire engine--pistons, rods, and all. Never really hearda using different parts from different year engines; seems to me that it might actually screw sumpin' up.

i dont think itll mess any thing up its the same engine just that some parts are made of different stuff or just differently.... i remember someone saying something about something though but i dont remember who or when or which they were talking about....

the only thing i know for sure is 91&92s had 4-2-1 headers stock....

edit: but if ur gonna rebuild the engine why not get some aftermarket stuff exactly how u want it instead of looking around for this that and the other thing just get it all brand new exactly however u want it to be....

All I know is that 99-later heads sucked and I'm pretty sure the 91-98 heads have a 3 angle valve job stock.

All cars have a three angle valve job stock. Been that way since the '60's. The 99+ heads have a lot less valve train loss thanks to the rollers and lighter valve springs. They just have really wimpy cams and very low flow thanks to tiny exhaust ports. Right now I"m running Ross forged pistons for a '97 with '95 rods and a '99 crank in a '99 block. All the same ****.
