Default Error code PO341

CAR: 97 SC2 and my wife's 97 SC1 (both having same problem!)

I am not an idiot and have searched the forum for this error, so I know how to fix it (with the coil packs and DIS ignition module). My question:

can i use brake parts cleaner or solvents like that, at least something other than a metal brush or sandpaper to clean the coils and module? I'm just not that comfortable grinding away at a $200-$300 item that my car won't run without, just to fix the annoyance of a check engine light.

Thanks!

Yeah, definitely don't go sanding on the modules, because you'll find that you won't get a good connection when you're finished. I'm not sure what kind of solvents would work to remove the corrosion, someone here might. A soft wire brush, even a toothbrush with some cleaner should work just fine without any damage to the coil. Afterwards, use some dielectric<sp? grease and it might help prevent this in the future.

Thanks again!

Brake cleaner should work fine, and won't leave any moisture, residue, behind. If that doesn't work, fruity bodywash is always a possiblity

Yea, that's what I started with -- but the coil towers were too corroded for it to dissovle the crud buildup on them. A quick jaunt with the dremel tool wire brush on the contacts solved that and the car runs like a baby now.

Thanks guys!!

OK now, it's back on...?? I have rechecked the contacts and the wires and the plugs (i just replaced the plugs and wires before I hit 100k, now i'm at about 120k).

It went off for about a week, came back on and I went to AutoZone to scan the computer -- they said its the same code, so they erased it but now it came back on about a week later again ... any other ways to figure this one out?

Thanks in advance!

If you had build up on the coil towers you have it on the plug wires as well. Either try to clean them out or replace them. Are the wires OEM? I know that the plug wires that come from Saturn the 2 and 3 wires are sold seperate but the 1 and four are sold together. Matched set kind of thing.

Well, I replaced the wires and plugs at about 80k and the car's at 120k now... as far as I can tell, there isn't any corrosion on the wires where they meet the coil towers, and I cleaned them out with brake parts cleaner too JIC.

So, what do you think?
