U need to check and see if there is turbine shaft end play (if the turbine wobbles back and fourth),Check to see if the turbine is seized inside the housing, check to see if there is any damage to the housing and if there is a exhaust manifold made for the satty that can fit the turbo you have. Do you know what model turbo it is?

I finally found out what the car it came from. Since the car is just badged Volvo on the left side and Turbo on the right [in the rear] I had to google investigate online.

The turbo is from a Volvo 240T Turbo

i highly doubt its worth making that turbo work on your car, because your going to have to have a custom manifold and downpipe made, then custom intercooler pipes- do not run a turbo without an intercooler! with the little boost that thing will probably make, if all bearings, shafts, and turbines are good, i just dont see it being a good thing to do. i very highly doubt theres anything out there that will mate to that turbo and your saturn and i cant figure out what that tube is for. either a waste gate(which suck, use a blow off valve) or like an egr tube or something

Wastegates and blowoff valves are not the same thing nor do they do the same thing. You actually want a blowoff valve and a wastegate on a proper turbo setup.

And every turbo setup is going to be custom unless you buy a kit from www.alphatuning.com. I made my manifold, I'm using a K26 turbo from an Audi, Audi wastegate, DSM BOV, Starion IC, MegaSquirt for fuel management, 48# injectors, and obviously custom piping.

If there is little to no shaft play, I think it'll be good for your setup. If you do use it, do not hook up the water cooling lines. It only causes heating issues.

well i thought the car was an 87'. turns out the 240t's were an 83-85 thing. is the turbo too old? can a turbo be "too old"? and tristan, is this in face, a water cooled turbo?

how much do you think itll cost to be rebuilt? thanks.

edit: i only want a nice daily driver setup, but a bit of go when i need to go. im no street racer

Your turbo may not be water cooler. It's hard to tell from the pics. Did you remove any off the lines/hoses from the turbo? If not, then it isn't water cooled. Only oil cooled.

If you are going to rebuild it, it'll be easier to just buy a rebuilt T3. What was wrong with your dad's car? The turbo looks a little oiley. My first turbo was a TE04H from an Eclipse. Small pile of crap. I wold gain power by running a hose from the intake to the inside of the car and blowing in it to make boost. That turbo had bad seals. I got about 1/2 mile down the road and couldn't see behind me because of the smoke. I pushed the car back to the apartment because I had lost roughly 2 qrts of oil. It was just blowing out the turbine.
