| Front STB causing problems I have a twistec Front STB that i put on today. Everything went fine, but i noticed the STB was touching the Vacuum line that goes from the valve cover (right next to the oil cap) to the Intake manifold thingy. I didn't pay too much attention to it, and drove around a litle bit to see how well it worked. It worked great, but i noticed a really high idle, and it felt like the transmission wouldn't shift. I pulled over and poped the hood and noticed that vacuum hose i was just talking about was cracked and split in two pieces.
Now for some questions:
1) what is that vacuum hose called (so i can tell the dealer so they know what i'm talking about), and
2) is there any way that i can put my STB on without having it touch the hose? (Right now i took the STB off, but i really wanna put it back on without having any troubles with it. If i have to buy a new STB, i'll be pretty upset!)
anyone else have this problem? if so any solutions? All help and responses appreciated.

| It's the vacuum hose for the PCV.....how ironic, mine broke recently....
I think you could just get some heavier hose. Is it just "touching" or is it pressing down pretty hard? fyi, that stock hose is a peace of crap, mine colapsed randomly after reving the engine.

| i think it was only touching lightly, but when i accelerated, the engine shifted and it caused too much pressure and broke.
Could i get some hose of the right diameter from advance auto parts, or pep boys or something and stick it on there... will that work? When i broke my EGR vacuum hose, i just bought some tubing and put it on there, and now it works wonders. I'll try that and see if it works.

| Ok, i went to Advance auto parts and bought a new PCV valve and some 11/32" Inside diameter PCV hose. I installed everything in the parking lot. The hose was a little snug, but it fit. I Started the car up and the RPM's rose (like they normally do when i start the car) then fell down way past 1000 RPM and almost stalled. i gave it a few revs and it stayed about 1/4" below the 1000 RPM level. I thought that it would eventually rise back up to 1000 RPM where it's supposed to be at, but it never did. When i finally got home, i shifted it back into park and the needle went exactly on the 1000 RPM mark. I shifted it back into D and it went back down to where it was on the way home. by the way when it's below the 1000 RPM's it's when i'm idling.
Now what's wrong with it? I doubt it, but could it be that i'm using rubber tubing instead of the hard plastic stock hose? I really need to get this fixed before monday. As of right now, it runs, but i'm just worried because it's never idled so low in it's life, and i don't want it to break down somewhere on the way to work.
Once again, all help appreciated.

| Mine's an auto. It idles at 900-1000rpm in park and 625rpm when in gear. When the engine is warm it revs to 1000 and instantly drops to 625 (which can be scary, but it's never stalled). Since I put in the new PCV it seems to have a hard time figuring out where to idle right after start.
fyi, I got that same size tubing and it is a really tight fit, but at least it won't colapse or let air in.

| I can check the specs later, but I think the normal idle RPM is somewhere around 850-900 |

| well right now it's idling at exactly 1000 RPM when in D, and just a little above that when in park. It looks like it's gonna stay like that from now on, so i'm not too worried about it much anymore. The only thing i'm worried about now is my STB breaking apart this replacement hose.
Oh and my new PCV wiggles around a little, is it supposed to be in there real tight, or does it wiggle around a bit?

| It is ok, you ever seen a honda or another car with a breather valve on it? All that tube does is let air go from your crankcase to the intake to rid it of emissions. Theoretically you can have an even larger tube on there and it would work as well. Dont worry, but dont let the tube get pinched if you can avoid it.

| i'm not talking about that tube, i'm talking about the PCV hose, the one that's right next to the oil cap, and goes from the valve cover to the intake manifold. I already have the red hose for the intake breather that came with my injen intake. I already know that nothing will happen if you don't have that hose. But the hose i'm talking about will screw up your idling speed without it, it's very important. speaking of that breather hose, will one of those fit on my PCV valve hose? i could get a little color matching to go on here if they do, but i doubt they'll be the same size diameter.

| The metal fittings for the crankcase breather and the PCV are the exact same size on my car....I don't think it would be any different on yours.
