Default funky scraping sound

We just finished putting the front end back together on my car about half an hour ago.

When we took it for a test run, when it hit exactly 30 MPH it started making a funky scraping sound from the front left wheel area, under 30 it stopped, at and above 30 it would start up. It sounds kinda like the wear indicator for brakes.

I know the half shaft over there needs to be replaced, and I got one from joey, but it is the wrong one, (doesnt have the part for ABS). The current one has a torn CV boot and has been that way for approx. 3 weeks.

Would this sound be the CV joint getting dry. otherwise any other ideas? I cant find where it is coming from, we stopped and checked it 3 times.

And if this is the CV joint getting dry, is it safe to drive on for a few days until I get the other shaft?

Thanks.

Robert

Did you clip the wheelwell shield guard in all the way? *where it clip onto the bottom of the car*

Mine made noise when I forgot to clip it in.

Don't know about the CV joint, but realistically, will you stop driving even if everybody tell you the car is not safe to drive?

Found the problem. amaginghl, you were right. My friend put the driver side wheel well liner on and missed the clip up by the radiator. So the wind was pushing the bottom part back against the tire. So now I have a big hole in the liner.

And yes, if I found out that it was unsafe to drive my car because of a condition, I wouldnt drive it until it was fixed. especially somethign like a halfshaft or something.

I guess you'll have to order more parts from Joey.

Driving with the CV joint boot torn will kill your CV joint, but I bet you already know that. Now, you run the risk of something *like stone or something* getting in there and look up your front wheel because there is no CV boot to stop it from going in.

Your call.

I know that driving on a bad CV is bad. However right now the hole in the boot is fairly small, just large enough that the grease sprays out from the inertia while I am driving. It is definately not large enough for a stone to get in there yet.

I may check a local parts yard for the wheel well liner. Then compare prices sice shipping would be kinda high for that since it is kinda large.

I bet the part is under $20.
