Default *****------Help Changing My Alternator------*****

Hey all,

New to this board but I have a 93 Saturn SL@ with the DOHC engine. The alternator has finally given up after 155,000 miles and i need to replace it. I am curious if anyone can give me the rundown on how to do this. It appears that it is not going to come out the top and I really can't see how many bolts etc.. there are becasue the powersteering pump is in the way.
How do I get the surpentine belt off ?

I am just looking for basic info on how to accomplish this quickly and easily.
I am mechanically inclined but mostly work on old Mopars and such. I have lowered the car and addeda wing and a scoop and custom wheels but thats about it. This is my wifes daily driver and its pretty cool. Its been a good car for the most part.

Any help would be great
Thanx in advance

twelcome to the board racer! its easy, jack it up slightly on the pasenger side, remove the wheel and the plastic splash shields in the wheel well, then youll have an almost unobstructed crack at it. the serpetine belt is real easy, take a open end wrench to the tensioner and give it a push, as it turns, counterclockwise i beleive, the belt will lossone, DO not remove the bolt holding the pulley on, you simple use that to cock it over and loosen the belt.

Cool
I was looking at that splashshield and was wondering if i should pop out those fasteners
From what Im seeing It looks as though the alternater thing is pretty common and Im lucky I got 155,000 out of it.
I was quoted about 140.00 bucks for a new one - OUCH !!!
Are they all the same amp ratings ?
Aside from doing the brake jobs and occasinol (sp?) sensors I really have had to do nothing to the car

Im thinking that pretty soon I should replace the timing belt too. Is that a tough job ?

Thanx for the reply Joey

actually around 96 or 7 they switched to the cs 130 alternator which was MUCH better, but, by 98 they cnaged the back plug of it, you could use a 98 or up wit splicing in the new plug.
140 bucks? **** that, 50 bucks, year warranty, i have some almost brand new ones from cars that had them rpelaced then got wrecked or however they got to my yard.
shippings about 10 bucks, sure, theres shops that will sell them for 35.00 if you want some JUNK thats been sitting outsuide in the weather since 1997 or so, lol
drop me a line, i can send you a cs 130 with no sweat, J

So where do i get the new plug end to splice on ?
Is it a simple 1 wire or 2 wire enternal regulator ?
This 130 is the same shape and pulley spacing , and the bolts are in the same location ?

Sounds much better that the older ones.
Thanx for the tips

would those instructions be the same for a 2000 SL1? I'm having trouble with my ignition system right now, and if its not the battery, then i may need to change the altinator.
