| Help Me Get Rid of These Damn Rattles! What's going on everyone? How are all your wonderful saturns? My 1995 Saturn SC2 is good but there are some issues...
Well, I have a system in my car and I love it. It sounds great on the inside, the only problem is that from the outside, the car sounds like a complete piece of **** because it rattles so damn much. I have already used 2 gallons of the SecondSkin Liquid Spectrun deadner on the trunk and trunk lid, but it didnt seem to completely fix my problem. It seems like the whole damn car is rattling now, not just the trunk!
I have narrowed it down to a few areas, but I need some help figuring out exactly how to fix em.
First, my rear deck jumps around like an 8-year-old who just ate a whole bag of pixie sticks. I need to figure out a way to keep it down or figure out how to remove the rear deck so I can put some sound deadner underneath it. Anyone know how to do either of these?
Next, my taillights are loose as hell. I mean loose to the point where there is obvious play in them when you put some pressure on them and can wiggle them around. How exactly would I go about tightening them up (is that even possible)?
Along with the taillights, the center reflector between the taillights seems to be vibrating and making a ton of noise as well. Anyway to tighten that up or make it stop rattling?
And last, my rear bumber seems to be sagging a little bit. I am able to reach underneath it and pull up and it comes up a little bit and stops rattling so damn much. Any idea how to fix that?
Thanks a lot guys! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

| Yeah, the S series are full of interesting rattles.
Removing the rear deck is easy, although I don't know what would be rattling underneath that. Just start removing pieces around it, and you should be able to figure it out.
The taillights/reflector don't "tighten" up too well. Instead,
Remove the piece in question.
Get some thin rubber, or that rubbery foam stuff, or something...
Wedge it underneath said piece, and re-install. That will make it tighter, keep it from rattling, etc.
Bumper....I dunno...zipties? I would just make sure everything is attached.
I know a huge source of rattles on my car was the heat shield over the exhaust. Check that out.

And the heat shield over the very last part of my exhause is rattling too, but is there anything I can do about that?

| Open the trunk.
Should be allen head screws going into the sides of the taillights. Remove them, and pull the lights off.
There's approximately 196 bolts on studs that mount to the rear reflector. Just remove as many as you can find, wiggle it really hard, keep looking for more nuts, more wiggling, etc.
Not sure what to do on the exhaust shield. If you've got an aftermarket exhaust system, I THINK you can just remove it, but I'm not sure on this.

I got my finger behind it and bent it back a little and saw the allen screws on the side of the actual lights but how do I get this rubber layer off?

| Ok so I have narrowed the last of my rattles down to a few key spots...
My tailights
My rear reflector
My rear deck
If anyone knows how to get these pieces specifically off of a first gen SC, PLEASE let me know!

I told you how to fix your taillights and reflector. Go do it.
I doubt your deck is rattling. Something near it, maybe...more analysis is needed.
Removing the reflector and lights is really pretty simple. If you can't figure it out, you should probably sell your car.
Someone just posted a thread on removing the rear deck...again..very simple. Just start carefully removing pieces around it, and wiggle it out.
Or, get a haynes manual for $15 that will tell you how to do all that stuff and then some.

| Well....
I still cannot figure out how to get my damn taillights off... Its not nearly as easy as it sounded... Theres something blocking my path to the screws that hold them on. (pictures here --> http://www.saturnspot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=31469)
Next, my rear reflector is just a pain and I cannot get the thing to budge at all but Im prolly just retarded...
Finally, Im pretty sure it is my rear deck. My rear deck jumps around a lot and im pretty sure im hearing it landing on the underlying metal. In addition there are some bars running across my trunk near the top of it that I think may be hitting each other as well.

| Why don't you try removing those blatantly obvious plastic rivets in that plastic piece?
Flathead screwdriver, pry out the middle section. Pull them out.
As for everything else, if you think it's rattling, wrap it in foam and see if it fixes it. If it does, then make a more permanent solution.
Those bars in your trunk are the trunk spring/opening mechanism. I don't really think those can rattle too much, but I"m not sure.
If you press on your decklid with the system on, does the rattling from back there stop?
