Default How can water enter coolant without burning?

I guess i should actually say where can it enter....

The saturn i have i just replaced the head gasket on, and i swear it seems like im losing oil into the coolant. but, the oil isnt burning.. the car doesnt smoke or smell like its burning or anything... im having the radiator flushed today and i will change the oil again tonight and see if my eyes are playin tricks on me. this is on a 98 saturn SC1 sohc by the way. i guess i just dont understand where on the engine the oil could be mixing with the coolant and not end up burning out or leaking out

and if it ends up that it is, im ordering an engine from Joey probably tomorrow

I forget which direction the flow goes, but if you have a cracked head I believe you end up with oil in the coolant. Then if you have a blown head gasket you get coolant in the oil. or it is the other way around. but this should give you enough of an idea that it is possible to have this condition.

thats whats killing me.. i just changed out the head gasket.... see, first, the coolant was going into the oil.... causing the water light to come on... now its the exact opposite... the oil is going into the coolant and im just trying to figure out where and why.. oh, and i had the head milled and they checked it for cracks and warpage

and hey, is there anywhere on the intake of these things where the coolant and oil could mix? i thought that there was only an oil passage on the intake on the drivers side under the intake port

i would say its something with the head or engine block being cracked. but does oil or is it possible for oil to be in the water pump? being oil not actually in the coolant, but the possibility that the seal on the water pump allows oil in. i have no clue if oil would be close to it or not.

also after replacing the head gasket, did you happen to flush and fill the coolant or did you just put in new coolant? it might have been possible that oil got into one of the coolant passages. or does the oil seem to be getting low?
