knocking, ticking, loud ass piece of crap

Ok guys, here is the problem. I just put my header on a few months back and the first time I started it up it sounded really bad. It was just a ticking and ticking and ticking. Since I have the 99 engine and got the 00+ header I had to plug the block heater up w/ a bolt. This quieted things down pretty significantly.

Ok... the problem is that when in park I can rev up to any RPM that it allows me to and there is no problem. No noise, no nothing. It sounds great.

When I drive... at around 2K-3.5K it just ticks, knocks, and most noticeably it "gargles". It has got progressively worse over the time that I put the header on and it is starting to scare me a little.

Before I go out and have someone look at it...
1. has anyone else had this problem or
2. does anyone have a clue what the hell this is.

Remember... its fine in park or natural through ALL the RPM ranges but once you put it in drive it just gargles so unbelievably bad.

do this VERY CAREFULLY, lock the parking brake, have a freind start car, put in drive and keep foot on brake, you carefully snoop around while car is gargling, check underneath, that sounds more like a bad cat converter to me, they wil not make this noise usally in neutral or park, its when in drive, with the brake on, such as when sitting at a light that the peices will rattle around making a gargling sound.
it is located basically under the console of the interior, so go to the passneger side and lsiten underneath you can also tap or kick them to listen for any lose peices but if it is the cat the above test will help the average laymen pinpoint it down.
