Default Lifters? Pulleys? something loose?

ok, my car is making some great noises. i get those a lot. i think its the lifters, but im not sure. just cruising im not gettin any odd sounds, just road noise and a bit from my CAI. when i put a bit of a load on it (EG: excellerating slightly round 1500 rpm @ 40 mph) i hear what sounds like a chain ratteling on the coming front (passengerside) of the engine. it sounds like lifters, but not in the right place leading me to belive that something around one of my pulleys is loose, but i cant find anything. Its already hit the cold weather here, but it still gets colder so i want to get this fixed b4 i have any major problems and get stranded some where.

any thots?

Mine does that too, especially when it's cold. I think it's just lugging a little under load.

Don't know why though.

The plastic rub block of the top chain guide may be gone. Mine sounded like that before it ate through the metal guide too then it got REAL loud!

pick up a mechanics stethascope these are usually around 10.00, its amazing to have one and be able to nail down exactly where a noise is coming from, beware though, what you describe sounds like a slapping timing chain, possibly a wirst pin but more common its the chain slapping fix it if so as it will leade to catsrphic engine damage if not attended to.

Mine makes all kinds of noises too, from both side of the engine. I've given up guessing what it is and as soon as I get the money I'm taking it to be looked at.

my 97 sc2 makes the same kind of noise so i had my mechanic look. my crank shaft pulley moves left to right when the engine is running. he said it might be my pulley or the crankshaft it self. so i would have your mechanic look at it because it might be worse then you think
