Default Lighting question

I just switched out to my 4th sets of bulbs. I went with Nokya, then the Sylvania Silverstar, then PIAA HyperWhites. The Silverstar and PIAAs are DOT approved and are rated at 55 watts. The Nokya reads 55w=80w or some B.S. and the new set of Solaris reads at 80 Watts at the bottom of the bulb. These are for low beam on my 2000 SL. Will this burn out my lighting harness? What are the harmful effects?

I've heard some people who put too high of a wattage bulb in literally melt the housing unit they sit in.

well i'd personally stick with factory wattage...i think you said that was 55w? 80 is definently gonna be too high and you'd risk melting it all. you could prolly get away with like a 60-65 watt bulb, but here again it's iffy. Hope that helps ya out.
