Default Low RPM rattle

I have a '92 SL1 automatic with 120K miles. This car has tons of small things wrong and I keep assuming it will die soon, but it never does. For a while now there has been a rattling at 1200rpm or less. There is no rattle above 1200rpm. This is coming from directly above the oil pan. Anyone have any idea what this is? (it is internal, not heat shield/exhaust related).

For a year now I have assumed this was the death blow and have not wanted to spend any money on the car. Now I am going to need new tires and some exhaust work. My wife has had this car since '94 and doesn't want to get rid of it. But the AC is shot, seat belts don't work, some of the electrical is flaky, etc. If anyone can give me an idea as to what this rattle is, it will help me decide what to do with this poor car.

My guess would be the catalytic convertor. I just replaced mine on my 95 SL2 with 90K miles. The innards of the convertor broke apart and were distributed throughout my whole exhaust system. I even found pieces in my muffler which I replaced at the same time. I also had a rattling noise that was only noticeable at low rpm's.

motor mounts? they tend to chill out when you get movin about 2000 rpms..

i'd normally say keep the satty for as long as it drives, but when you're shellin out that much to keep it going.. *sigh* .. i think it's time to tell your wife to get an ion or something, stay in family at least
