Default And my saga continues..now it's the alarm.

So we replaced the battery, and all the lights come on, including my alarm.

Now, I have some funky, Code Alarm thing that is connected to the ignition.

I have to press the button to turn it off, otherwise I can't start my car. We just replaced the battery in the remote, so that's brand new.

But now, we can't turn off the alarm. After 5 minutes or so, it will turn off, but I can't start my car.

Do we need to reset something? This is so frusturating.

There are many different types of alarm systems. Do you know what type you have?. If you can find the manufacturer and model number, you might be able to download an owners manual in PDF? First check the glove compartment for any paperwork.

thats odd, something must have tripped the alarm.

but i have got to ask, have you driven the car yet or are you waiting till the alarm problem goes away?

The brand is Code Alarm.

It's a pretty old system I think..they don't have it listed on their website anymore, and it only has two buttons.

Arm and Disarm.

And I can't drive the car without disarming it. It locks the ignition so you can't turn the car on.

I think when removing the old battery, and then putting in a new one, it must have triggered some sort of anti-theft thing. There has to be some way to just turn it off. LOL

I can turn it so all my lights come on and stuff, but the key does not go into the Start position.

All I've been able to find is a replacement remote online for 49.95.

The brand again, is Code Alarm and on the back of the remote, it reads:

FCC GOH-MM6 101890
DOG: 1409 K791

That's all I got. Nothing in the glovebox except my old paystubs and insurance and stuff.

well with quite a few alarm systems before removing the battery you need to disarm it by pressing a button that normally is hidden. the button deactivates the system so the car can be worked on and not have a problem with the alarm system going off or say with you locking the ignition. you need to find that button or find the wires to the alarm and cut them. but if you cut the wires in the ignition to the alarm, say goodbye to the car starting then. unless you can find the module unplug the system and plug the ignition wires back in and never have to worry about the alarm again.

I'm confused by your wording. Have you been able to start the car at all since you replaced the battery? You said the alarm went off and then shut off on its own after 5 minutes. After that happened, did the car start? Are you able to stop the beeping (or honking) when you push the disarm button?, or does nothing happen when you try to disarm it. Lastly, was the alarm system working before you changed the battery? If so, than it's probably something simple. Don't go cutting any wires. I don't know of any alarm system that would prevent you from turning the key to the start position. That's a mechanical thing, not electrical. Are you sure the steering wheel is in the locked position?

It sounds like your alarm WAS in valet mode, and when you disconnected the battery it reset and came out of valet mode, and activated the starter kill feature. You should find a small push button somewhere under the drivers side dash. Push and hold that button, and try starting the car should override the starter kill. If you want to put the alarm back in valet mode, try turning the ignition on, and push the ARM button on the transmitter. I believe this will put the alarm back in valet mode and you won't have to worry about the alarm sounding or the starter kill activating. If by chance your in the NE PA area I would be willing to take a look at the car, and help you out. (I'm a professional installer..)

Good luck,

Mike
