Default New Engine Issues

Alright, heres the deal. Friday night my car took a dump. I got a lovely crack in the head and shot my engine. =( That blows. So I am doing a bit of shopping for a new motor and found one at a local yard here. Its out of a 2001 S-series with 18,000 miles. I know that there are some issues with a new motor going into a 96 SW2, but I am wondering what I am looking at. Or rather, what should I let my mech. know before hand? What kind of conversions are needed? Is this a good deal? Does anyone know if there were any issues with that motor. It is a DOHC. Thanks guys!

Joey at 6th Planet is setting me up with a SOHC from an '01. Mine isn't a wagon, and I don't know if it's like my swap. Your's is also two years older. He said other than an extra port for a knock sensor that was added, it was routine. He did mention that the DOHC's seem to burn up faster, but factor driver, maintenance, and the like in as well. Your toys work as good as the shape their in. Try a Spot search, I know it's been discussed.

hey taco, how much they charging you? let me see if i can beat it!
the 01 dohc will bolt in just bolt your INTAKE on, the bolt pattern is the same.
now, you can use the 01 exahust manifold, but then youll have a pre cat, another thing to break, best bet is to try and get a 99 exhuast manifold which fits the 01 head and bolts RIGHT to your downpipe.
when we sell something like yours or daves we do all this legwork for you

He said he's got a '01 DOHC with about 18000 on it. He'll only charge me about $550 for it.

taco, what yard is it? no-one gives away a 01 dohc for THAT price, something stinks, either the mileage doesnt ring true, they may not even have it and just want your money, is it an on line yard? not everyone like us stocks their own stuff, many places just take your money then try anbd outsource it, ive heard of recent escapades where some other yards, claiming to be saturn specilaist couldnt even deliver a 99 twin cam and kept someone we know money for 3 MONTHS and couldnt produce the engine, thank god he got his money back but prolly cause he was well known, he did say we would have bought from me but this other yard made it sound so tempting. drop me an email at the 6th planet site and wlel see what we can do for you.
also think about this, we bring in 4-5 cars a WEEK to keep up with demand, if a palce has one two, even 4-5 saturns how are they going to warranty it if neccasery if they dont have the stock to back it up?!
well chat man, thanks, joey
