Default No reverse

I have a 95 SC2 with an automatic. My wife had to run uptown and when she went to leave the store she no longer had reverse. There was no noise or problem before leaving, when she got back in the car no reverse. Everything else is fine. When you put the car in reverse it will just rev up and not move at all. I was told it may be a 2nd/reverse solenoid. I pulled the valve body pan and moved all solenoids over one, to see if I lost another gear, but still no reverse. Of course the transmission shop said it will have to be rebuilt at $1200, but I just can’t believe this is the solution. Why would all forward gears work fine and before the problem no sign of trouble and now need to have the trans rebuilt? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Just to add.. I did a search and have tried the solution for the reverse slam. Still no luck.

Thanks
Lonnie

if all foreward gears work fine especially 2nd gear, then possibly have problem with the reverse servo piston hydralic circuit. this device moves a dog clutch to physically engage reverse gear to the outputshaft. this would require a trans teardown. i hope it don't come down to that. btw welcome aboard.
anybody got the aircheck diagram for the tranny
