The computer wouldnt be reading what its suppose to. It wont burn it out per say, but your emmisions and fuel economy will suffer. You may even get bogus fault codes and SES lights further down the road. Long term it can be bad. Ultimatley its mostly an emissions thing.

You have a 95 SL2, which is OBD-I...

I am pretty sure that all OBD-I cars didn't have an o2 sensor in the cat. I know Langston's 94 didn't have one when we did his exhaust work. We chopped his cat off and it was fine.

My 95 and 93's just have an o2 sensor in the manifold. I see no reason why they would be affected in any way.

The engine would not be affected in any way other then a decrease in back pressure.

I wonder if anyone else has a gutted cat? I hear allot or speculation about all of the dire consequences, but other then the legal issues (if applicable in your state/region) I have had nothing but good results.

Ultimately it is your car, you will decide.

The I have is where are all of these dire predictions coming from

Langston is a hippie. Don't believe him Hahah.

Seriously, you have no o2 sensor in the cat. Go ahead and remove/gut it if you don't need it for emissions. You'll get a LOT more top end power. Langston commented to me after we did his that he lost a substantial amount of power when he had his cat re-welded in place.

What about low end will it be killed? Would this be a good thing to do on an automatic car?

Langston has an Auto, and that fugger pulled hard without his cat on. I don't think he lost much if any low end power.

yeah, I also commented about this on another thread difference to take into consideration between matt & I:
-we also did mounts & pullies at the same time
- DOHC/SOHC differences

BTW. When I get my cat-back done, Im gonna have them install a test pipe so I can just bolt the cat in when emmissions roll around!

no cats are illegal for one thing, so trying to pass emissions wont work unless you have a friend that will slap a sticker on your car.
Another thing, taking off cats will kill your low end power.
top end will be increased, but that really doesnt matter unless u wanna take it up that fast..lol.
I did a test on my car a while back ago when i was changing exhausts.
I tried a off road H pipe, which is no cats, sounded like ****, i felt a def. loss of power.
I got rid of that, and stuck a H pipe, with hi flow cats on it, sounded great, and felt great car hauled ass. But still wasnt loud enough, so i went with 2 straight through pipes with high flow cats back to 2 flowmaster 40 mufflers, car sounds, performs the best outta all the exhaust changes i made. (also all this was done on a mustang) just incase u guys are like...uh? haha.
