Default O2 sensor fault after change to TRD exhaust

My 1997 sl2 has been tweaked for fun. the 91' header was just jet hot coated and installed with "sensor safe" high temperature rtv, and that caused no problems with the o2 sensor. Two weeks later I installed the thermal research and development 2.25 " after cat exhaust system. High temperature rtv was used to seal the flange between cat and cat back exhaust pipe. Upon driving, my service engine soon light lit up for me. The code reader states it is P0141 O2 sensor heater circuit fault (Bank 1, Sensor 2). Has anyone else encountered this problem? I have a new oem sensor to install. The wiring seems to be burn free, and whole. Do I need to get some adapter extend the distance from the o2 sensor and the exhaust flow? Please help.

I think you need to order an o2sensor simulator. Since we have obd 2 when a catback exahsut is put on it soemtimes throws a code. Here is the link to where u can get the simulator. It just plugs in between u o2 sensor.

If you have power onthe pink wire on the body side of the connector key on and a good ground on the black white wire then you either have loose wire termianls or the sensor is bad. Most likely the sensor.

Are you sure that the RTV that you used both times is considered sensor safe. RTV will murder an O2 sensor of any kind. It is possible that even the fumes from it in high temp conditions can do the sensor in.

Default darn sensor

I forgot to get a o2 sensor socket, so I have only fooled with the connections and wiring which checked out fine. Thanks for the o2 simulator idea (intense racing has one for $30). the condition of the sensor is what I will check after Purchase the "special socket". Thanks for the advice guys

Just put gaskets in there and you'll be fine. That rtv gunk will leak eventually, haven't had any problems with gaskets.

Default o2 simulator

Thanks for the advice. i tried to remove tha old o2 sensor and managed to round off the shoulders, so I installed the 02 sim. Intense racing was my source. I had to change the connecter from male to female, and it works. It is tie-wrapped to the crossmember. Hope it passes state inspection. All help is appreciated.

have you tried to use a 7/8 wrench to remove the sensor? and really the sensor shouldnt be hard to remove because it shouldnt be put in tight and also use anti-seize on it. i would suggest to continue to try and remove the sensor or let a shop remove it and install a new one and also get the gaskets in place not the rtv.
