Default Oil on Spark Plugs

I recently purchased a set of OBX performance plugs off of ebay and when I went to take out the old plugs there was oil all over them. What could be the problem because that doesn't seem too good?

Year and model of the car?

Assumption can be that it is a DOHC engine. Next assumption is that the plugs had oil on them before you removed them from the engine. If both assumptions are right then your valve cover gasket is leaking and it needs to be replaced. Depending on the amount of oil in the plug wells the plug wires may need to be replaced as well.

I appreciate all of your responses. I will probably pick up a new valve cover anyway. So, I guess I have to change it. Thanks .

Just the valve cover gasket not the entire valve cover and gasket, unless you want to.

There's a junkyard that I goto to find parts every now and again at , and they had a painted 1st generation valve cover for the dohc. It's painted red and is actually in very good condition. That's why I mentioned changing both.
