Default Painting needles

What can I use to paint my guage needles red that won't damage them? I just ordered some reverse indiglo guages from pocarparts.com, and I need to make the needles to stand out in the day. Will a paint pen work?

Did you thin it out or anything? Does it have a clumpy glossy look? I want more of a flat look. Got any pics of your guages?

The exterior color of my car, dark green. I'm thinking of doing it silver or so.
I slid some gel covers over the bulbs in the front of the gauges. SO my needles look like they are black.

OK, I got another question. When I remove the needle theres a the metal base under it. Is it completle round or is a half-circle shaped? I was wondering, if it was a half-circle shape it would be a lot easier than a completely round piece to line the needles up. Also, do the needles slide back on or do the need to be glued?
