Default PCM

Has anyone had any experience changing out a PCM? How difficult is it to change?

It's easy. '91-99 it's under the dash board cover. Take off the cover, and remove one bolt. From under the dash (laying down so you can see up past the pedals), there are 4 wiring harnesses to take off. IIRC, you just squeeze the connector tab to unhook each of them.

Disconnect the battery before all this.

'00-02 it's even easier, as it's under the hood and easier to get to.

when your sitting in the car (drivers side) the pcm is right above your left foot. to get to it...
1) remove the screws (2) in the center of the dash
2) pop the dash out, there just snaps. and the dash will come out
3)when you look at the pcm, youll figure it out. one bolt.

just thought id ask.....
Why are you taking yours out?

I am going to try to replace it. My car had not been running good and I have tried about everything else so since I have a spare I thought I would try the PCM as long as it is not real hard to change out.

The PCMs rarely go bad (though it does happen occasionally), so don't get your hopes up too much. Since you have the spare, it's worth a try, though.

Why do you guys remove the dash? It pulls straight out the bottom easily. Goofy to get to but if you lay on the floor you can see it and easily figure out how it comes out.

you have to pull the dash to get the bolt at the top that holds it in....
and its not like pullen the dash is hard either.

if you want to see if its the pcm, just unplug the wires and plug them into the new one and just let the new one rest on the floor. that way if it doesnt do jack, you just re-attach all the connections. (3plugs)

You must not bolt yours in place.
