Default Piston Rings

I am burning some serious oil and i ruled everything out, other than piston rings. Anyone delt with these before. Any price quotes? Can i do it myself. I am pretty mechanically enclined, but idk what kind of work is involved..its just really annoying to add a quart every 2000

I had the same problem with my 93SC2. I was freinds with the service manager at the dealership and he mentioned that it was not uncommon. I do not know what is totally involved because they did the work. I have 139000
on the new set of rings since it was rebuilt at 96000. It is starting to burn oil again , but I think I will let it go this time.

A quart every 2000 isn't bad from what I am hearing. Is it blowing smoke? If not, it's prolly going out the PCV and back in the intake.

Rings require pulling the motor to do it right. It's not a good idea to try and pull out the pistons with the motor in. It deson't save much time. It will give you a chance to check the sleeves to make sure they are still within spec. Make sure you get a good set of rings. I can't find the link, so I don't remember what the brand was, but someone sells rings sets with good oil control rings.

I think this is what is happening with mine. (PCV is getting clogged periodically as well as the TB.) This is rings then, right?

I've yet to do a compression test, probably 'cause I don't want to know the results.

You're gonna have to take off the main and rod caps/bearings, and the head and manifolds, and pull them from the top. It helps to have a piston ring expander handy for the top 2 ring lands.

The Gapless design......I won't touch. Stick to conventional rings.

Mainly because they're way too new of a design for me to feel comfortable with.

A major problem with them is if they're not set up EXACTLY as needed, the rings will not seat period, and well....you oughtta know what will happen after that.
