Default Please help: headlights

Car: 97 Saturn SL1

I want to switch my headlights to the white/blue kind (just wondering, is there a green kind?) and I found some on eBay, but how do I switch them? And the ones I buy will probably be the high beam/low beam ones, right? How do I get ones to switch for my daytime running lights? Because they are a nasty yellow.

I really would appreciate some detailed help.

Thanks.

You have 4 headlight bulbs. one pair is the daytime running lights and the brights, the other pair is the standard beams. The bulb numbers are 9005 (DRL/high) and 9006 (standard *a.k.a. low beam*).

To change the bulbs, open your hood and look behind the headlight reflector housing. You'll see where the wires go to the bulbs, and the wires connect at a right angle to the bulb. Rotate the bulb and it will come loose so you can pull it from the housing. The wires & small plug will unplug from the headlight.

*NOTE 1* Don't touch the glass of the bulbs, and try not to let them touch anything else. A little oil from your fingers or grime from something else is all it takes to make the bulb get hot spots and burn out prematurely.

*NOTE 2* Headlights that are obviously not a white color may make you game to getting tickets. Headlights are supposed to be white, not colored, so you can get ticketed for other colors. How likely this is all depends on how strict the police are in your area.

So would these work without any modification?

As long as the bulbs that you receive are the ones shown in the package and not the 2 on the right.

Actually, I just checked and I think I have 6. Here is a little diagram to help things:

1 2 3 4 5 6

(looking at the car from the front, the numbers represent bulbs)

1 and 6 I can twist and pull out. I thought those were the ones you were talking about. I just checked (turned all the lights on) and those are only my parking lights. 2 and 5 are my standard beams and 3 and 4 are my daytime running/high beams. The thing is, they don't twist out. How should I get them out?

And tristanlee85 - why wouldn't the bulbs on the right work?

The bulbs on the right are built for cars with a single bulb with hi and lo beams in the same bulb, like a Neon.

Get that.

Right, 6 bulbs if you include the turn signals - 4 headlight bulbs. They should all twist & come out, but they may be stubborn, and you have to turn the correct way.

Green headlights lmao!

Just stick with PIAA or Silverstars and you wont have any issues, they are clean, bright white in color and are nto to high power. Be careful with bulbs running any more than 85 watts like 100W +. Bulbs that are colored need the higher wattage to compensate for the dulling color. You will lose visibility and range over stock with a blue colored bulb.
