Default power steering

so, long story short, i work 60+ hrs a week, so i let a "good" mechanic who "knows" alot about "tuning" put on my underdrive crank pulley......i got the car back on saturday, drove it 1.5hr to another city, drove back home the next night, and then to work the next morning and to lunch....get in my car to go home, BAD squeal....goes away once i rev it and put it in gear and start to drive.....as i start to drive home, my voltometer on the safc2 reads 13, 11, 10, 8 and then car dies..........the guy didnt put a smaller belt on it, so im guessing i was driving on just battery for the past three days, and it died.....i put the oem crank pulley on, battery out of my sc2,and now theres an even louder squeal, and i had to push start it with a good battery.....the mechanic says my power steering pump is now bad......what!? how? i did have to add power steering fluid....what the hell happened? and what belt should i use to put the underdrive pulley back on?

Just how much fluid did you have to add??? Unless the pump got bone dry it should not have been affected. Have you checked to see if the noise is from the pump. If you have no time to DIY then you will have to continue to trust this guy or find a place for a second opinion or to do the work.

Finding the right size belt will take some playing around. If you look at the tensioner there should be a bit of a marked area on the body or non moving part opf the tensioner that a line on the moving part of the tensioner should be in. This would be where you want things to be for belt size.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the Haynes manual may tell you the belt size that you need...
