Default problems with tensioner pully

I cant seem to get my tensioner pully loose. Can anyone give me some insight on what needs to be done to get that pully loose and get the belt off. All I want to do is change my alternator.

Are you sure you're on the right pulley? The bolt doesn't come loose, the pulley just moves so you can get the belt off. When I was taking my belt off I was on the wrong pulley and couldn't figure it out either until I got to looking.

so i should just be turning the wrench to the righty tighty to move the tensioner. Cuz the bolt came loose and right out. I am sure I am on the tensioner.

all you have to do is get the proper size box wrench and just carefully kinda rotate it and the pulley will come loose, actually it will rotate against the spring and the belt is a snap to get off..... the the one you want to 'play' with is towards the rear, a little behind the fender well cover that is left when you take the inspection cover off to expose most of the lower side....

if you did the other pulley, it would not have moved and you then just loosened the bolt to the fixed pulley towards the front.....like you described...

Have a look at the beam over the rad. There is supposed to be a diagram of the belt routing and the way to loosen the tensioner.

To loosen the tensioner you need a 14 mm wrench on the tensioner pulley bolt. You want to cause the pulley to move down.

Does it not have a 3/8" square hole in the arm to accept the drive stub of a ratchet handle to move the arm against the spring? I can't remember. It's been a very long time. Some cars have this, that's why I ask.
