Default PUTT PUTT PUTT

So out of no where while driving my car starts making a awful PUT PUT PUT noise through the exhaust, and its louder than before and my CAR IS SLOW, SLOWER THAN BEFORE. After several hours of reading i've concluded 1 or more of my cylinders are DEAD. Did a compression test and the numbers are Cylnder

#1 170
#2 158
#3 180
#4 182

I think the service limit is 170, but i don't know, could it be my cylinders are toast?

I'm gonna guess a gasket of some sort, but don't take my word for it...

i noticed the cam cover gasket was leaking, just a tiny bit, the oil on there was covered with dust but u could tell it was brand new. I have cleaned that up and no more oil has ''leaked'' out. Also i checked my plugs and wires and they are good, also there was some oxidation of some sort on the coil post thingy but i cleaned that up and it runs better. I still have a putt putt putt coming out my exhaust, and it literally goes putt putt putt, u can even feel the ''gap'' of time, like exhaust comes out, then no exhaust, then exhaust.

Nothing horribly wrong with the compression readings. They are all within about 10%. If you had corrosion on a coil tower then the you may be able to save the coil by cleaning it but the corrosion is in the plug wire boot and connector. hard to get all out and have the wire work as it should. How did you check the plug wires? Use an ohm meter and get the resistance readings of the plug wires. None of them should be any higher than 10,000 ohms. The #4 wire 2-3 and the longer ones 5-7 approx would be normal.

i looked inside the plug boots and connectors, only on one of them was there corrosion, like the limey looking stuff found on battery terminals, that was cleaned off as best as possible, i tried the Ohm meter but the battery on my meter thing kept going low so i never got accurate readings, so i should just get new wires? i might as well if i'm should replace 1.

Might not be a bad idea. Especially if they are old. Make sure that you get all of the corrosion of off of the coil though before you put new wires on.
