| A question for the great expirementor (Joey) and/or all Just to file away for my own personal "swap" reference and to help out someone else with a compatabilty problem. When did the wiring harness plugs for the engine harness to PCM at the connectors change? (Beyond the OBVIOUS 94' CA emmissions, 95's and OBD1 to OBD2 changes)(What years wil plug right into what?) The guy in question has a 92' SC (DOHC) that has a 95' DOHC Engine in it. (He HAS swapped over teh vacuum EGR valve to the "newer" engine) His problem is (of course) the crankshaft compatability issue. The car does run, but runs so rich due to the timing issue it won't pass emmissions. He has obtained a 94' PCM, which WILL work with the 95' engine, but has discovered the harness plugs are different and it won't plug into the 92's harness. I "think" the PIN OUT positions are the same, but the locator grooves on the harness plugs are different. He is wondering if he can just shave the grooves and make the plug fit (not that I think that's a good idea) I've told him he needs to get the harness out of a 93' or 94' OR cut the plug itself off the harness and then splice it in, matching up the wire colors which did not change..needless to say alot of work...just wondering when the harnesses changed year to year at the PCM PLUG and "if" there is an easier way that I am missing. For future reference a list of what year harnesses will plug right into what year PCM's (JOEY???) would be great so I can stop guessing or trying to remember.

| good morning wolf, first, how did he put his egr on? we have plates made, the infamous one saturn made was to make vacuum cars swap over to linear egr for california emmsions. i have also heard of people simply drilling ou the holes (i cant confirm this as i havent done it) and using nuts with bolts to secure it.
ok on to your question.
you are correct, he will need a 93-4 harness to fit the pcm and run the car.
also, i believe he will be better off using a 93-4 pcm also.
i believe it was 8/92 and up that the harness end changed, it was the same (offhand, trying to recall) until mid 95
but the 95 pcm had the linear egr memory built in, thats why i think he should use a 93-4 pcm and harness.
now, have you seen this swap? any vacuum leak, even MINOR, will trick the car into thinking its running lean, which in turn will make the computer richen up the mix.
espcially important, did he swap his 92 tb over onto the 95 engine? what about the intake? if he used the 95 intake that MAY be part of the problem, i do KNOW that the tb vacuum lines must match up to ANY engine swap, like i explained when we do a later model swap, we always tell the customer to swap THEIR injectors and tb onto the new intake to prevent any compatibility issues.

| hey wolf, did he swap over his vacuum egr solonoids?! is not the solonoid on the back of the 95 engine was totally diffrent and can cause a run rich situation, if he used the vacuum egr he must swap over the proper solonoids also.

| Not trying to change the topic or anything...but I have a semi-relevant question:
Hey Joe, are you capable of converting a linear EGR system to a vaccum EGR system?
(I have a 95 engine in my 94. Car has the original 94 PCM, etc. )

| if in a state with no emmisions you dont HAVE to use it, but like i said, my machine shop makes me a plate with the proper bolt holes drilled through
i have also HEARD, not done, but heard you can drill the factory bolt holes on the block through and make the vacuum one fit but like i said, i havent done so, for 30 bucks i get a plate made.
when going from vacuum to linear its easy, saturn made us a custom plate as all california cars had to be adapted, but same theory, oh yeah ive also heard one guy took the linear egr plate, flipped it over, and drilled it out a little and it worked also.

| Thanks for the info. I'll email you for further info. I might look into having your shop "help me out" when I am in FL in May.
