Default Rattlin' and rumblin' from right rear.

I've got a rattle coming from the right rear suspension area when I'm travelling over rough pavement or gravel. Any ideas?

I was thinking that it is either the "cup" kind of thing at the top of the strut/spring assembly, or that my bearing assembly might be worn.

Is one more likely than the other? Any ideas on how to check?

I'm figuring the way to check the bearings would be to jack the car up and see if the wheel wiggles, and the way to check the strut assembly would be to check for vertical movement?

Jim

That's exactly how I'd check it. Have you tried it out, yet?

You are right on how to check the bearing. Get the wheeel hanging in the air and see if there is any play in the bearing. Also give it a spin and see if you can hear feel any roughness in the bearing hub. On the right rar also check to see if your muffler strap is ok. If it has broken then the muffler would be hanging on the suspension crossmember and could be making the noise that you are haearing.

Mine used to make a metal rattleing noise over big bumps....turned out to be a broken exhaust hanger that left the pipe resting on the frame....
