Default Rear Seat Belt Retractor Stuck

Just finished putting new struts on a 2001 sedan. It was necessary to take out the seat belts, which fully retracted. Now they will not pull out from the reel. Is there a way to get to the reel mechanism and cause it to release the belt so it can be pulled out?

A prompt answer would be appreciated.

Sounds like the belts are locked position. Like when you do manuvers to quickly. Removing the retracters would be enough to put the swing pendulum into the lock position so that the belts will not come out. You will need to get the belt to retract to release the tension on the belt to let the pendulum reset. If there is enough slack in the belt to let it go in it should release. More likely you will need to remove the retracters again, keeping them in the same attitude/position that they are installed in the car, let the seat belt slack come in to release the lock.

And what if your seat belts have a tendancy to not retract? This has been happening lately on my driver belt, where I would unhook and it would not retract without first pulling slightly.

When I bought my 2000 SC1, the seatbelt was in the completely out position. My dad forced it into the reel, but then it was in the completely in position Since I bought it from a dealer, they replaced the assembly for free. Dunno if that helps at all.
