| running rough well...put my sat in the shop....was running real rough after warming up.
Guy said to clean EGR (gunked up bad), replacing crank sensor and ignition module, but may still be ECU. 98SL1. my question is....will that fix or is it possibly the ECU, and if it is, where can i get one for a good price?
by running rough i mean....ran like it was missing...lurching when accelerating . wasnt bad at first but after about 3 weeks got progressively worse |

| Was the Coolant Temp Sensor replaced? On those cars, they tend to fail, and cause the engine to run excessively rich when warmed up.

| yup.....replaced last year with pump and thermostat. Mech says coolant sensor reading good
Also replaced wires and plugs last year which is why we believe (and hope) it is just a bad sensor somewhere. Def hope it aint ECU |

| Recheck the plugs, coils and plug wires. PCM's (ECU) are a very rare thing to go bad. Look at the wire resistance of the wires. Plugs for excessive gap, build up, carbon tracking on the white ceramic.

| well he has cleaned EGR, replaced Crank pos sensor and ignition module. One of the posts on the module was in bad shape. Looked like corrosion on it. Still ran rough, misfiring to be exact. Gona replace coolant temp sensor. Beginning to think it is ECU, unless possibility of timing chain going bad, any ideas? |

| Pull the plug wires one by one to find which one is misfiring.
Switch the coil packs and see if the misfire follows it.
Replace plugs and wires, and coil packs if the misfire follows it.
It's not the PCM.
Run a compression check. It's pretty doubtful that it's anything timing related, but if you put a piston into a valve or something, you won't have any compression in one cylinder.

| well, I get to be the exception again.....after replacing PCM...she runs...yay.I am guessing it was the result of a combination of things but after the egr celan, ign module, crank pos sensor and replacing pcm( the one behind dash).......now i get to start planning replacement of 2 front window motors...lol |

Rare things to go bad can go bad.
