Other than some VERY minor gearing changes through the years and some SLIGHT mounting changes after the earlier 91'-92' units the MP2 and MP3 are the same.(They will bolt right up to ANY year SOHC OR DOHC block) the AUTOMATICS on the otherhand went through some electronics changes throughout the years that make them "somewhat" more year specific. (They still bolt right up but may not work/shift right if the PCM and transaxle are of too different years) JOEY WILL KNOW which year automatics will interchange I'm sure...

lets stick with autos, VERY FEW, and i mean very few, will swap out and work with each other
start with single cam autos
91-2 will work together, 93 stand alone 94 TWO DIFFERENT MODELS FOR AUTOS, very tricky year period, they changed the linkage going to the neutral safety and it wont bolt up nor can you just change the rod.
95 different, 96-7-8-9- will swap out, this is SINGLE CAMS
twin cam autos
91-2 same
93 stand alone
94 AGAIN TWO DIFFRENT MODELS IN ONE YEAR.
95 diffrent then 94 again
96-7-8 will swap out and interchange
manuals ALL can be used, even if its single, twin, 91-2, 99 doesnt matter, all bolt up and in reality EVEN THE GEARING DIFFRENCES ARE SO MINOR that unless a freak about vin numbers matching you can bascially take a 91 even 9cut the aluminum tab for special mount off, and bolt it to a 99 and it would work....
but the autos ARE EXTREMLEY MONTH/YEAR, PRODUCTION SPECIFIC.
do not attempt ANY auto swaps with diffrent years unless you have a specific ok, from, hate to say it, but myself only, EVEN DEALERS have no clue 90% of the time when it comes to mis matching
hell i just lost a sale to saturn of naples CUASE THE TECH WAS A DUMB ASS and told the service writer a 97 twin wouldnt swap for a 95, i said, you really want a old tired 95 motor? they said, well our tech said only 95 would work, oh yeah painting that valve cover in 96 sure made a diffrence
95 was ALLREADY linear egr and except for a ONE WIRE fan trick its TOTALLY interchangable....

97 Sl auto. tranny holds 7.5 pints from a completely empty system. AKA 3.5 quarts for a tranny and filter change
