| Silly ass question... Has anyone here ever wired in one of those push button start dealies like the stuck in S2000s? What I was figuring is that it could actually work as a security feature if you A) disconnect the actual starter wiring at the ignition cylinder, and B) have the button fairly well hidden in your interior.
That way, the ignition could be popped, they could bypass the steering wheel lock, turn the cylinder, and still get nothing. A thief would actually have to trace the wiring to figure out how to hotwire your car, unless they've got the energy to give it a push and bumpstart it.
whaddya think?

| I think that almost every push botton starter on the market replaces the lighter. So your hiding idea is out. Other than that I think those things are kinda cool.

| The ignition is still used actually. Most cars with the push start require the key be turned on then use the button. |

You don't even need to use that particular type of button. All you need is a momentary switch or button of any description, and you've got the same thing.
You could hide it in a touch panel in the dash or center console. You could totally hide it underneath something as well.
As for the wiring issues and still using the key, the wiring for the ignition has 3 "functions." The first is "accesory power." That turns on all the gizmos. The second is "run." This turns on all the things that need to be on when the car is running. The third is "crank." This position does nothing but send power to the starter motor.
If one were to reroute the wiring from the crank position exclusively to a button or switch, the function would then be disabled at the ignition cylinder. You wouldn't even have to run a separate relay for the button, as you'd be using the stock wiring for the function.
Still thinking about this one......

| I've always wanted something like that...
Was watching tv one day about a yr ago. Some old guy built a hot rod and took his friend for a ride. He let his friend be the first to start her up after she was done, but when he turned the key, nothing happened....they traded places. The old guy who bought it stepped on a button on the floor board and then turned the car on.......it was nice.
Ever since then, I've wanted a custom ignition switch making it harder for someone to steal ur car. ((btw, i asked joey about this when i had my 93 sl1, if ur wanting to do this, he said the pink wire going to the ignition was the wire to play with )

| Pink wire you say? Looks like I've got a project. Just gotta figure out if that's the only wire. Gonna need the pink wire, and probably a ground as well, yeah?

| I actually bought a real S2000 push button from a Honda dealership. I was cheaper than the aftermarket ones.
It is in my buddies civic and it looks pretty cool. We mounted it near the steering column and all you need is ignition 12v, starter wire, and ground. It is a super easy install.
Hint: Cut the terminal block off an A drive from a bad computer power supply and you have yourself a PERFECT wire harness! |

| Bypass the clutch switch and you can install a remote start on a manual. Just don't leave it in gear or else you'll have problems. Big Problems... |

jim | You would still have to put the key to "run" before pushing the button. And if you did bypass that it would make the car extremely easy to steal cuz they would just have to push the button....no need for a key.
