Default Sluggish Accelerations

My 92 SL 180K, manual, is very sluggish when accelerating at all speeds. Even when in 5th on the interstate. Any ideas of what to do and where to start?

Have you checked to see what condition your spark plugs are in?

Make sure that all the basics, like tune up are good. If the engine running well/smoothly? Any SES lights? Is this sluggishness new to the car?

Also be aware that the SL only has 85 horse so if it's new to you then...

my 93 sl1 has a sluggish take off, and sometimes around 40mph if i continue to go that speed, the car tends to jerk or studder a bit. Thought new plugs and wires would help that problem. Any suggestions?

Great call....

I replaced the plugs this morning on my 85hp monster . All were coroded but I think the problem was solved by replacing the plug in the cylinder closest to the battery. The ceramic busted on the way out of the cylinder. It also appeared rough looking.

Does anyone know why this may cause it? Just curious. When driving I did better by not shifting to a higher gear when I was at peak RPMs.

Also, where/what do you get that dielectric compound for the tips?

THe parts stores around her eusually have the dielectric grease in little foil packets up by the cash registers. They are usually hanging on a wire rack. But thats around here, may be different other places.

The plug nearest the battery (cylinder #4) is where pretty much all of the EGR action takes place. That cylinder actually has enough thermal stresses going on that the factory bore is slightly larger...just an FYI.
